Bring It On

23 January 2009 2 Comments

Obviously the recession is bad news but the one thing we hear over and over is that it is essentially a crisis of confidence.

There are two ways of looking at this crisis. Go with the media’s never ending stream of bad news, baton down the hatches and hope for the best.  The other is to realise that while most people are pulling back they are leaving opportunity for others to pull ahead. Recession is often a time of innovation and the innovators reap the rewards.

Needless to say we are definately going for the latter. In 2009 we intend to innovate, find new ways of doing old things better and try some completely brand new things! Expect a new DAB multiplex on-air later this year with some features that will raise eyebrows. Before we get to that though, we have a month-long multi-city licence to operate on good old fashioned FM.

2009? Bring it on!

    Hi Dusty,

Am really missing All 80′s on my DAB radio!!

Can you give us more info on the new DAB multiplex and when exactly we can expect it?

I must say that the overall level of investment by RTE in DAB has been disappointing – but also, the lack if interest and updates on digitalradio.ie is worrying. Am wondering do enough people/stations care about DAB to make it work in the long run? The inpression I get is that Today FM etc, don’t care because of the cost and lack of clear direction for the format.

Another point – will we end up having to fork out for a DAB+ radio anytime soon?

    Keep up the good work!

    Thanks,
    Mickey Moo.

The commercial stations may not care which is most likely to do with cost-savings and not wanting new entrants to the market.

Regarding RTE, they are starting to put some live presenters on their Pulse and Junior services which makes a huge difference. Considering they’ve close to zero budget I say fair play to them.

On DAB+ you’ll be happy to hear that there is an EBU agreement in place with manafacturers meaning that radios in the near future will be able to receive DAB, DAB+ and DRM.

Finally, the BIG NEWS, plans are in place to bring All 80s back on DAB later in the year. With any luck before summer !
