RTE and the Department of Communications have established two concurrent trials on two different platforms over a two year trial to introduce digital radio and television to Ireland. RTE are responsible for DAB Digital Radio while the Department of Communications are trailing Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) which will also include radio stations on set-top boxes.

Existing national radio services are being carried as part of the trial along with new digital only stations operated by RTE and Digital Radio Ltd. These new stations provide new and novel content the key attraction to new listeners.

The trial is running from several multiplex transmitter locations. DTT from Three Rock covering the capital city Dublin with surrounding counties and from Clermont Carn covering the North-East of Ireland. The DAB trial is currently on air in both locations as well as RTE’s DAB transmissions in Cork.

Digital Radio Ltd have secured two broadcasting slots on all of these trials for our All 80s and Mocha R’n'B stations.

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland are due to announce the winner(s) of Irelands first commercial DTT multiplex licences in Summer 2008 and followed by work on digital radio in Q4 2008.
