DAB Tagging
Tagging is simply hitting a button on your DAB radio so it will remember a bit of information playing on the screen.
The video below shows tagging in operation using an iPhone app called TuneMark. When you hear a song you want to remember the name of, you tag it. With this app you can look up the song name later, email it to yourself or shock horror even buy it on the iTunes store.
This is all nice and sweet for the music industry but what I really like about it is the listener can tag anything you choose to display. For a talk show it could be the name of the guest or perhaps you’ll display your text/phone number regularly and listeners will tag it.
Crutially for radio it can be a revenue generator by charging a small premium for displaying advertiser information that listeners can tag and use at a later time. It might be a store locaction, a special offer or a phone number.
Tagging is genuinely useful for listeners and advertisers and another feature along with Slideshow that will revolutionise radio use. Tagging is still at the planning stage and RadioDNS are actively incorporating it into their digital radio spec which will become a standard.
In the meantime, look at the video below to see how simple and how useful tagging will be for radio.
