New DAB Trial

A new DAB trial has begun in the South-East of Ireland serving Wexford, Waterford, Tipperary, Carlow and Kilkenny.
The trial, operating under a one year ComReg licence on Band III 9B, is being run by Total Broadcast Ltd in Waterford. Initially the trial is simulcasting local radio services.
The trial will encompass tests on station bitrates, transmission power and location in addition to a planned trial of DAB+.
The multiplexer itself was constructed by the team at Total Broadcast. Knowing the system from the ground up will allow the company to experiment greatly with DAB and we expect some very interesting tests over the coming months.
If you are living in the area simply re-scan your DAB radio to receive the broadcasts.

Hi Dusty i live in North Tipperary and i just did a rescan on my DAB radio and can’t pick up any tests from Total Broadcast Ltd. Do the tests cover all of Tipperary as well as the other counties mentioned? When the tests finish in twelve months time will our radios be left blank until RTE launches it’s DAB service in the southeast.Thank you for your time.
Kind Regards From
Mr.M O Brien
Hi Michael,
It is a test transmission so I’m pretty sure tx power and perhaps even location of the transmitter or design of aerial arrays might change across the year. I suggest re-scanning your DAB radio every fortnight or so and keep an eye on the web.
Cheers
Dusty
